StarRunner Plus
This is an Arcade Game
Mactivity's CD-ROM nr 10 advice: This application did
run on a b/w 68030 processor under System 7.1. It was
also tested on a big ColorScreen of a PowerMacintosh
running System 7.1.2. The game was also tested on a
Quadra with 68040 processor and a 13 inch Color Screen
and System 7.1 by Mactivity.
StarRunner "Return To Nemesis" is a fast arcade
game not unlike Defender featuring:
* Fast 60 fps and smooth animation.
* Digitized sounds
* Over 100 levels
* Over 20 different kind of smart aliens
Your Task
* Your mission is to flight from planets to planets
rescuing stranded humans and destroying all other low-life
creatures - if it moves, shoot it! If it is still there,
blast it!
What's New?
* New and improved graphics and visuals
* You can start at any level
* Automatic switching to 1-bit color more
* Manual override to choose the monitor you want the
game to run on
* Inviso feature
* Optional Defender key mapping (thrust/reverse)
* Reverse key
* New and more sound effects
* Smoother variable speed
* Easier game play (yes!)
* The game feels quite different
Hints
* The new and improved StarRunner can now fire while
flying backwards. Quite useful to shoot up lines of
aliens. It can also handle progressive speed.
* Don't let aliens kidnap the little waving people on
the ground. You don't want to know what happens if
none are rescued...
* Some aliens follow you from planet to planet. Therefore,
don't stay too long on one particular planet; they
might come get you... Heh heh...
* One type of aliens leaves flashbomb capsules behind
when shot down. Catch them before they hit the ground...
or run after them later...
* Holding the shift key while loading the game will
give you an extra thousand points (not).
* Aliens aim at you when shooting, therefore change
direction often.
* Aliens are better at shooting at you when you're at
low speed. Run, run, run...
* You get a bonus ship every 10,000 points
* Check out level 5...
* For people with more than one monitor hooked up to
their Mac, hold the <option> key
as soon as the progess box appears. Doing this allows
you to select the monitor on
which you want the game to run.
Notes
* StarRunner requires a 68020 CPU or better to run.
It will work on any Macintosh screen set to B/W.
* StarRunner now works with both System 6 & 7.
* Multi-monitor setups: StarRunner always tries to use
the main monitor first (i.e. the one with the menu
bar on it). In case the main monitor is not set to
B/W, the program will scan for the first available
B/W screen. Therefore, if you have both an internal
B/W screen and a external color screen and want the
external screen (set to B/W) to be used, set the external
monitor as the main one and run StarRunner.
* StarRunner was tested on the following Macintosh computers:
SE/30 (system 6.0.7 and 7.0), II (system 7.0), IIci
(system 7.0), IIsi (system 7.0), LC (system 7.0), IIfx
(system 7.0), PowerBook 170 (system 7.0) and Quadra
700 (system 7.0).
* System 6 users: StarRunner is now totally System 6-compatible
provided System 6.0.7 or higher is used and 32-bit
QuickDraw is installed (the 32-bit QuickDraw init can
be found in the Color folder on the Printing Utilities
disk ).
