Bungie Software, a Macintosh software developer, today
announced that it has developed a tank battle simulation
for the Macintosh series of computers. The product,
titled Operation: Desert Storm is the first Mac game
to be announced which models aspects of the recent
Persian Gulf War. Alexander Seropian, President of
Bungie, said that the game "lets you command an
M1A1 Abrams battle tank on a series of missions in
Iraq and the Kuwaiti Theater of Operations. Your objectives
include destroying Iraqi military assets, such as SCUD
launchers, nuclear
and chemical facilities, and more. Your opponent,
however, has a formidable and well-equipped army pitted
against you. You'll have to avoid or destroy Soviet-built
tanks, French- and Soviet-built warplanes, land mines,
poison gas, artillery, and other obstacles." Seropian
said that the game also includes historical and technical
information about the geography, people, and nations
of the region. He stated, "We want our product
to be more than simply a great action game, so we have
included important facts about the region's industry
and resources, the weapons in the war, and the battlefield
maneuvers which brought victory to the Allies. We
hope that our maps, military information, and historical
timelines will broaden everyone's understanding of
this important region and the recent conflict."
